Rumi Café & Grill

Two kitchens, one long table.

Mornings here look like two countries at once. On one plate, free-range eggs, feta, cucumber, walnuts, honey and clotted cream with warm barbari or sangak bread. On the next, a full English — chicken sausages, turkey rashers, hash browns, beans and your choice of toast.

By the afternoon the charcoal is lit. Lamb and chicken koobideh, saffron joojeh, chenjeh fillet, lamb chops and whole sea bass, all off the grill and out with freshly baked naan. On Sundays there is ghormeh sabzi; on Tuesdays, zereshk polo ba morgh.

Around the table

Mornings here.

Two kitchens on one table: eggs, feta and warm bread on one plate, a full English on the next.

An English-style breakfast at Rumi: two eggs, turkey rashers, chicken sausages, a hash brown, grilled mushrooms, roasted tomato, baked beans and buttered toast.
Two poached eggs under hollandaise with turkey rashers and sautéed spinach, dressed with saffron oil and dried barberries.
A bowl of spiced sausage and potato cooked down in tomato, beside triangles of warm sesame bread and a dressed salad.
Smashed avocado and crumbled feta on two slices of toasted sourdough, with chilli flakes, lemon and a small salad.

The charcoal grill

Skewers, over fire, to order.

Grilled over natural charcoal: minced lamb and chicken koobideh, saffron-marinated joojeh, chenjeh fillet, lamb chops, charcoal wings, a whole sea bass — and a mixed grill for two — served with freshly baked naan bread and fresh salad.

The garden

Open air, the Persian way.

A joyful, open garden with traditional Persian takht seating — made for good moments and long conversations, with shisha served from eight in the morning until eleven at night.
